EDUCATION AND OUTREACH

Our mission extends beyond animal care.

Through education and outreach, we connect people of all ages with Rhode Island’s native wildlife, conservation efforts, and ways individuals can make a difference.

Our Education Program operates alongside our Animal Care work, offering structured learning opportunities both on-site and throughout the community.

For questions, scheduling, or pricing inquiries, please contact our Community Engagement and Programs Director Olivia Harrington at oharrington@riwildliferehab.org

Rhode Island Life Sciences Internship Pathways Program

Launching in 2026, this comprehensive workforce development initiative prepares students and emerging professionals for careers across the life sciences, including wildlife care, public health, environmental health, conservation science, and applied biological research.

Grounded in biology, physiology, chemistry, and systems ecology, the program connects wildlife rehabilitation to broader public and environmental health systems. Interns gain hands-on experience within a working wildlife hospital and, when applicable, with partner organizations across Rhode Island.

Learning opportunities may include:

  • Wildlife rehabilitation and regulated clinical environments

  • Exposure to emergency veterinary medicine and public health systems

  • Ecology, disease dynamics, and environmental science

  • GIS, data analysis, and science communication

  • Education and community engagement

Through funding from the Rhode Island Governor’s Workforce Board, a limited number of competitive paid placements are available. Additional internships may be offered for academic credit or experiential learning.

Internships are application-based and align with academic or career pathway goals. Applicants can expect to be contacted within 2–5 business days of submission.
